Otago Robocup Competition

Last weekend I was part of the Otago Robocup Competition. It was a great competition, with almost 50 teams entering into 3 major events: Search and Rescue, Soccer and Theatre.

My entry in Premier Theatre was called Robocup Junior Jr. Since I have previously entered all the major events before, I thought that it would be fun to showcase each of the major Robocup events in one performance. My entry involved having singing chickens (Theatre), a robot that gets lost following a line then eats the rescue victim (Search & Rescue) and finally scores the winning goal using the eaten victim (Soccer). This was all told by my robotic blue fluffy monster puppet 'Bloom' in 3 minutes.

I won first place in Premiere Theatre and I will be entering into the National competition in September (here in Dunedin).

This is my 5th time being part of the regional competition and I highly recommend entering it if you have a chance, as the experience is something you don’t usually get. It's hard work but seeing your robot achieve its goal that you programmed is well worth it.
