The first ski trip of the season returned from an enjoyable weekend at Cardrona on Sunday night. Eighteen hardy students made the most of the bountiful fresh snow despite rather cool temperatures.
While the weather forecast made staying at home by the fire seem the more sensible option for the weekend, the actual two days on the mountain provided fantastic skiing conditions. According to the locals they were the best two days of the entire season so far, with quality snow and sufficient visibility to see where one was going. Getting to and from the skifield proved to be the most challenging part, with heavy rain and strong winds on the Friday night and a full-on snow blizzard for most of the way home.
The boys coped well with the conditions (maximum temperature of -8˚c on Sunday) and their enthusiastic participation ensured growing confidence on the slopes.
