The Otago Boys’ Chess team competed in the annual South Island Championships which were held in Ashburton this week.
The team made a good start to the tournament with wins against John McGlashan College and Christchurch Boys’ High.
They were going neck and neck on points with Burnside High until the round prior to lunch when we made some careless mistakes against a competent Logan Park team. This result set the team back into third place.
After a good chat and Subway for lunch the team came back firing on all cylinders and beat Burnside High and St Bede's to gain maximum points which enabled Otago Boys’ to retain the trophy for the fourth year in a row.
This is a remarkable achievement and congratulations to the team of Max Lough (capt), Ethan Lau, Noah Oseki and Aaron Nelson.
