Applications were made available at this week’s Senior Subject Evening. If you would like your son to have this opportunity, then application forms are available from the student office at Otago Boys’ High School or via the attachment below.
Applications need to be into the Student Office by Wednesday 25 September.
Please note that students wishing to apply for Gateway still need to choose six other subjects as indicated by Mr Hooper for Subject Course Choices by Wednesday 25 September.
Gateway is not a University Entrance subject but rather a subject that matches unit standards with vocational experience in approved industries. Previous Gateway students gained experience and credits in Industries such as: Building and Construction, Plumbing, Electrical, Engineering, Mechanical, Hospitality, Tourism, Aviation, Surveying, Hairdressing and Agriculture.
Students wishing to be considered for Gateway need to be able to manage their time and meet coursework deadlines for other subjects. Attendance at school and a can-do attitude are fundamental.
At Otago Boys’ High School students are timetabled into a Gateway class as a subject and an individual learning plan is written for each student. Unit standards are a mixture of Level One / Two and Three dependent on the industry the student participates in. All units of learning count towards a student’s NCEA record of learning.
Students will complete twenty days’ work experience across terms one to three with an employer selected and vetted by Otago Boys’ High School.
Selection of students into this program for 2020 will take place in term four after consideration by a panel.
Additional information is available for students from Ms Irving in Room 13 at lunchtimes.
