The annual National Robocup competition was held last Saturday at Dunedin City Baptist Church with a huge number of participants.
170 students in total from across New Zealand came together to showcase their love of programming, problem solving and building robots.
Aaron Nelson (Year 10), singlehandedly gained 2nd place in the Theatre Premiere Division, only narrowly missing out on 1st place by a couple of points. Aaron has competed numerous times in this event and adds his medal to a growing collection. He is an outstanding competitor, bringing years of experience of coding to create an imaginative performance.
There are 3 divisions within the Robocup competition: Search and Rescue, Soccer and Theatre. Aaron coded his robots to perform a mixture of dance, soccer and performance to a musical backing track, using a range of sensors to help control his program’s execution. Robocup continues to attract more competitions each year and we look forward to supporting more students entering this fabulous competition in 2020.
