The holidays are coming!
It has been a long term with no mid-term break, and the boys are ready for a good break.
Hawthorne, Campbell, Thomson, Nicholson, the McCaw room (new sports room) are names you hear all the time at the hostel but what about the dining hall? The boys have been challenged to come up with a name for the dining hall. For example, Southland Boys' refer to their dining hall as the Stag and Bore Cafe. After talking to some boys in the weekend, Hoops Cafe appears to be an early front runner. At the start of next term, the boys will discuss this in groups with the goal of having a name for the dining hall by the end of the year.
Last Tuesday, the hostel was awash with neon for the Year 9 and 10 social. This was the first time in several years that we have hosted a social and the girls who came really enjoyed it. It was fantastic to have an appropriate place to hold the social. We are intending to hold another one next year.
Well done to Thomas Ryan for his 5 hour erg to raise awareness and funds for the Mental Health Foundation. To have the fitness and mental fortitude to complete a task like this is amazing and the hostel is proud of his efforts.
Next term we have a couple of important events. First up is Skippers Feast on the 1st November. This is the hostel end of year dinner where we farewell the Year 13 students. We have a Year 7 Open Day on the 15th November and the Year 8 sleep over is on the 29th November. School finishes a week earlier this year with the last day being 6th December.
I hope everyone has an enjoyable couple of weeks and that the boys return to the hostel ready to go for term four, which is a short but busy term.
