The holidays are coming

Only one more week to go! It has been a long term with no mid-term break. and the boys are ready for a good break. The seniors however, have one more hurdle to get over before their holidays begin, the senior exams. These are important as it shows the boys where they are it. It is also, what the school uses if a provisional consideration is required. Good luck boys!

On Friday we have hostel parent teacher interviews followed by the Hostel vs Day Boys League match. Kick off is at 2:15pm at Littlebourne, please come down and support the boys. The hostel is the current holder of the Littlebourne shield, but we have a stiff task to defend it this year with the day school having a pretty decent line-up. The boys will need to be at the top of their game!

Hawthorne, Campbell, Thomson, Nicholson, the McCaw room (new sports room) are names you hear all the time at the hostel but what about the dining hall? The boys have been challenged to come up with a name for the dining hall. For example Southland Boys refer to their dining hall as the Stag and Bore Cafe. After talking to some boys on the weekend Hoops CafĂ© appears to be an early front runner. At the start of next term, the boys will discuss this in groups with the goal of having a name for the dining hall by the end of the year.

The hostel on Tuesday was awash with neon for the Yr9 and 10 Social. This was the first time in several years that we have hosted a social and the girls who came really enjoyed it. It was fantastic to have an appropriate place to hold it. In the past School House have had socials in the dining hall, but this is obviously not ideal as all the tables and chairs needed to be moved. We are intending to hold another one next year.

Well done to Thomas Ryan for his 5hr erg.  To have the fitness and mental fortitude to complete a task like is amazing and the hostel is proud of his efforts.

Next term we have a couple of important events. The first up is Skippers Feast on the 1st November, this is the hostel end of year dinner where we farewell the Yr13 leavers. We have a Yr7 open day on the 15th November and the Yr8 sleep over is on the 29th November. School finishes a week earlier this year with the last day on the 6th December.

I hope everyone has an enjoyable couple of weeks and that the boys return to the hostel ready to go for term four, which is a short but busy term.
