Tenders are being accepted

The School is pleased to announce that tenders for the car park have been listed on 'GETS'; the governments electronic tendering site.

As Otago Boys’ High School looks to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Hostel in 2021, we are calling on our community to assist us in ensuring the hostel remains one of the best in the country.

Serving predominantly Otago, Southland and South Canterbury, Otago Boys’ High School is one of the oldest, most well-established boarding schools in New Zealand, enabling our boarders to develop and grow into fine young men.

Today, the Hostel remains an integral part of the school with boarders from varied backgrounds and a refreshing approach to life often considered the heart and soul of the school.

Be it led by Des Smith, Bill Trewern, Brian Ashwin, Ken Rust, Mike McGarry, Brian Sitaki, Paul Vilestra or current Director of Boarding – Matthew Markham – the experiences these leaders provide have benefitted generations of students and in turn countless communities.

The current site of School House is unusual in terms of boarding in New Zealand. It is situated in the suburb of Roslyn and as such is truly a ‘home away from home’. This provides its own challenges as we try to maintain the opportunities without the ability to develop within the school’s physical footprint.

In 2017, an opportunity was presented to the school to develop the vacant area adjacent to the Hostel. After much negotiation with neighbours and the Dunedin City Council, I am pleased to announce that work will shortly commence on the development of a new formal entranceway to the Hostel.

This development will serve two purposes – it will give a focus to the Hostel to be proud of and will enable safer and better access for our students, their families and staff.

Completing projects like this gives real impetus to the importance of the Hostel to the school, improves our facilities and maintains the high standards of Otago Boys’ High School.

Total funding required for this project is $650,000 with $500,000 already raised, thanks to a significant contribution of $350,000 by the Otago Boys’ High School Foundation. To raise the final $150,000, we are offering once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for families to be a part of the history of the hostel.

Naming rights over the Hostel entrance archway:

This is a significant opportunity for your family to be acknowledged in the Hostel. There is only one of these opportunities.

$10,000

Car space naming rights

Each of the 14 spaces to be named with priority going to current hostel families. These spaces are for five years and gives that family the opportunity to acknowledge the special place the Hostel has in the development of their young man.

$500

The ‘Family’ wall

Located in the archway leading into the Hostel, families will be able to purchase a plaque in honour of the boarder of their family including their years of attendance at Park, Campbell or School House. This will be an ongoing project with the wall aiming to raise funds for current and future Hostel development projects.

$2000 (payment can be spread over four years)
