Record Partnership Sets up Big Win vs Waitaki

On Tuesday the 18th of February, Waitaki Boys’ High School travelled down to Littlebourne for the traditional interschool fixture, played in winter like conditions.

After winning the toss and electing to field first Waitaki made a dream start. Liam Mavor took two wickets in the 1st over to have Otago Boys’ under pressure early.

That was until Jacob Cumming and Seb Kyle came together at the crease and began to rebuild the innings. What came next was a splendid partnership filled with incredible patience early in the innings before some elegant batting towards the end of the innings. Jacob and Seb put on an Otago Boys’ High School record partnership of 346 runs for the 3rd wicket, with Seb compiling 128 runs for his maiden 100 for the 1st XI. His batting partner Jacob put the foot down late to finish his innings on exactly 200 runs before being run out off the last ball of the innings. Jacob’s total is believed to be the 1st time an Otago Boys’ High School batsmen has scored a double hundred for the school. Both batsmen were present in the first and last over of the innings to lead Otago Boys' to a mammoth 358 runs from their 50 overs.

In response, Waitaki were never really in it with the bat, losing wickets at regular intervals to finally be dismissed for 78 runs. The bowlers shared the wickets around with the top figures going to Oliver Ritchie who took 3 wickets.

A comprehensive victory leading into our next interschool which is against Christ's College in Christchurch on the 24th and 25th of February.
