Otago/Southland Secondary School Chess Championships

Last Saturday the annual Otago/Southland Chess Championships were held with a record 15 teams from throughout the region competing.

Otago Boys’ A team was represented by Noah Oseki, Ethan Lau, Richard Wang and Aaron Nelson. Our B team was Nicholas Wright, Jared Lau, Oliver Hobbs and Nathaniel Millar-Coote.

In 2019 the A team managed to pip Logan Park High School by one point to win the title for the 9th consecutive year but unfortunately the tables were turned this year and our A team finished up second by half a point! Pretty close after 6 hours of intense chess. Our B team finished a creditable joint 6th. 

Special mention must be made of Aaron Nelson and Nathaniel Millar-Coote who won awards for the best results of the day playing at number 4.
