Hockey Tournament Update

Our 1st XI hockey team are competing in the South Island Secondary School Premier Hockey Tournament in Christchurch.

Day 1

Game 1
A 8am game v King's resulted in a 5-0 loss. King's showed the class they have showed during the local competition. Some good lessons for OBHS and an opportunity for 8 boys to experience their first game at a tournament for OBHS.

Game 2
After 3 hour break and we played the current top side in the Christchurch competition, Christ's College.

The boys really stepped up and played some great hockey, and took a deserved 1-0 lead into quarter time thanks to a penalty corner goal to Jacob Cumming. Christ’s responded quickly and equalised in the second quarter. It was very even for the remainder of the match.

Christ’s were awarded a penalty stroke with 2 minutes remaining which they converted. OBHS were unlucky not to be awarded one themselves on full time. Unfortunately losing 2-1.

Day 2

Game 3

The boys woke up with some sore and stiff bodies after 2 games on day 1.

They were keen to put the annoyance of the Christ's College match behind them, and were very motivated to take on our southern neighbours in Southland Boys'.

OBHS got off to a cracking start and scored 3 goals in the first quarter playing some brilliant attacking hockey.

Southland picked up a goal in the second quarter and at half time it was 3-1 to OBHS.

The 3rd quarter was some of the best hockey OBHS has played this year and they were unlucky not to score 2-3 more goals.

The hard work paid off in the 4th quarter scoring a 4th goal and winning 4-1.

Day 3

Today OBHS play St Andrews College.
