School House News

Examinations and end of year functions dominate the rest of the School House year.

We have entered that time of the year where boys’ minds start thinking about the upcoming holidays. After the year we have all had, this is understandable. All boys however, junior and senior, still have one major hurdle to overcome before they can hit the beach; examinations! The boys have heard the message on numerous occasions, but their studies must be the priority for the next few weeks. The juniors start their exams next week and the seniors only have a few days of classes left. It is crucial that the boys take every opportunity given to them in the classroom over the coming days.

Last week we had Skippers Feast, out traditional hostel end of year celebration. Robert Hall and Jack Dixon (Year 9) did a great job as MC’s and delivered an honest and heartfelt speech about the year they have had. Head of School House, Mitchell Duncan also spoke and it was touching that he thought to mention all the boys who have left the hostel from his year group during the journey from Year 9 to Year 13. The main purpose of the evening though, is to farewell the Year 13’s. All the boys received their leavers ties which they have been proudly wearing to school.

A big congratulations to all hostel boys who won prizes at senior prizegiving. It is always a thrill to see hostel boys come across the stage on the big night!

Next Wednesday marks the end of school for the Year 13’s. On the last day, the boys receive a haka from the rest of the school as they leave via the school archway for the last time. This is a spine-tingling moment. To the parents of Year 13 boys, it is well worth watching if you can make it.

Well done to Hamish Faulks for gaining selection to the Te Waipounamu (South Island) Open Men’s Touch team. Hamish joins brother Angus in this team. Congratulations Hamish and Angus!

Lastly, congratulations to the following boys for being named a School House prefect for 2021.
