Kia ora koutou! My name is Kat, and I am the Science Technician at Otago Boys' High School.
I source, prepare and maintain equipment and chemicals for the Science Department, as well as ensuring the health and safety of our boys and teachers. I've been told I am the "glue that keeps the Science Department together" and saying I love my job is a real understatement. I live and breathe for science, particularly Astronomy (that's what my background is in) and I love encouraging and supporting students to get into science. During lockdown, I had the absolute pleasure of using my astronomy-based knowledge to mentor a group of boys for their Earth Space Science assessments during the lockdown period.
You will often see me walking around with my lab coat on and I will always stop and have conversations with students who are curious about science. Feel free to stop me in my tracks to say hello, and you are welcome to ask me anything space-related. I am absolutely nuts about it!
I look forward to meeting you all next academic year! :-)
