Otago Boys' High School is pleased to announce the appointment of our new Assistant Principal/Director of Boarding.
After an extensive process involving the Sheffield Recruitment company, Mr Vai Mahutariki has been appointed the the position.
Vai comes with significant experience in school's as a teacher and as a senior leader, he knows and understands the role family plays at the hostel.
Hostel Parent Committee Chair, and appointment panel member Mrs Andrea Faulks says;
'It is with excitement that we will welcome Vai into our extended hostel family. We were very fortunate to have some fabulous applicants for the position of Director of Boarding at school house but are delighted that Vai has accepted the position to bring him and his family to join us. Vai comes with some pretty cool experience which I am sure all of our community will benefit from and together with the great existing staff at our hostel, we will see a positive 2021, and beyond.'
In his own words Vai is 'very much looking forward to coming home with my family and embarking on this exciting role as Assistant Principal/Director of Boarding at Otago Boys High School.' Importantly for this role he sees first and foremost family as everything it shapes who I am, this is how I treat staff and students in my care.
Alongside Vai we welcome wife Sharina and our two boys Zaiya and Iaia, Sharina particularly will enjoy being back home in Dunedin.
Unfortunately Vai and his family are unable to join us for the start of the year. Currently he is teaching in Bahrain. Covid restrictions, particularly finding accommodation at an approved isolation hotel is difficult. As such he and his family will not be able to join us until early April.
In the interim, Mike McGarry, ex Director of Boarding will join Scotty, Pita and Janis to lead the care of hostel boys. We are extremely confident that this will be a great start to the next chapter for the hostel.
We look forward to 202 and thank you all for your continued support.
Please enjoy a much deserved Christmas break.
