The group left Dunedin early on Sunday morning, with every student there well before 6.45am. This must almost be a record!
We were able to walk into the Lodge dry and with the Wanaka area having had limited rainfall, MacPherson Creek was crossed without the need for the planks. With the small and efficient group ferrying-in supplies quickly we were able to go for a swim at Wishbone Falls.
That night rain began to fall, and this was the way it remained through beyond Wednesday morning. The group did get enough respite to go out on the overnight but heavy rain on Tuesday morning meant the planned walk up the recently re-opened Rob Roy Track didn't happen.
The group were upbeat despite the weather (and that no fish were caught) and on Wednesday were preparing to do some Lodge-based activities with Staff. They did well, being self-sufficient in some trying conditions. Thursday's kayaking would be dependent on the river conditions.
