We have had good numbers at the Wednesday lunchtime Gaming Club. It is a good chance for boys of all year groups to come along and play games with and against their peers. It's a time to have fun, interact with others who have similar interests, and practise being gracious losers or humble winners.
Days like these are a good way to make an event of it, and have something to look forward to. Gaming can be a pretty impulsive and addictive thing, so having 'event' days, that are deliberate and designated gaming times, can help students think about when it can fit into the week, and when it should not get in the way.
We want to minimise the negative aspects of gaming, such as playing alone in a dark room for hours on end foregoing sleep, and emphasise more of the good aspects: an outlet for competitiveness, teamwork, social interaction, persistence, improvement, and enjoyment.
It has been great seeing a number of boys interacting with people they might not see in their classes or daily routine.
