The Senior debating competition began this week.
Our three teams were debating the provocative proposal that teachers’ salaries should be based on the academic and behavioural improvement of their students. Teams 1 and 3 were arguing from the affirmative position while Team 2 was given the negative.
Luke Geddes, Michael Crosson, and Boudewijn Keenan had a runaway win – in double digits. The adjudicator provided welcome feedback to improve, but also complimented our second speaker for the flawless opening to his speech. Luke Geddes was highest speaker for the debate.
Team 2, consisting of Bruce Zhang, Matthew Visser and Joshua Brunt, and Team 3 composed of Billy Gilchrist, Matthew Bolter and Jordan Hannon, lost by a mere 5 points. The scores for the individual speakers were close, which is a good sign this early in the competition!
