Mr King and I arrived at the Lodge 10am Wednesday morning to replace Mr Willmott and Mrs Marr who were needed back in Dunedin.
10B had made a great job of tidying up the place and were awaiting our inspection of their bunkrooms. The weather was looking threatening but we took advantage of fine breaks to fit in an orienteering session (run by Moss and his fellow year 13’s) and a walk around the corner into the East Branch during the afternoon.
Thursday was kayaking day. With the assistance of two instructors from Paddle Wanaka the boys enjoyed the rapids and picked up some new skills on moving water. They have also been given a lot of training in general river safety during the week which they will hopefully be able to recall when needed in the future.
We were woken to steady rain on Friday
morning. Helped by our strong team of
year 13’s we were able to efficiently complete the clean-up and walk out to
Aspinall’s place to meet our bus in good time.
The rain gave us all a reminder of just how quickly our little creek can
rise, plus the added bonus of seeing all the waterfalls
