It was a pleasure to supervise 21 young men at the South Island Athletics Championships in Christchurch last weekend.
The boys performed extremely well considering a 40kph wind and very cold weather.
All boys finished in the top 10 of their events – some achieving PB’s while others finishing just behind the winners in 4th, 5th and 6th.
Two of note are Jamin Millar who competed in four field events coming 4th in three and 5th in the other, and Jacob Parkinson who was pipped at the post in the Junior Hurdles.
Outstanding performances are as follows:
Hamish Moore: Senior Champion in 100m, 200m and 2nd in Senior Relay.
Cole Gibbons: 2nd Senior Pole Vault and Senior Relay.
Liam Kerr and Hadlee Edmunds: 2nd Senior Relay.
Luke Moffitt: Otago and South Island secondary schools record Javelin, 2nd U16 Triple Jump, 2nd U16 Hurdles and 1st U16 Relay.
Manaia Lesa: Junior 100m and 200m Champion and 1st U16 Relay.
Levi Heffernan: 3rd Junior 200m and 1st U16 Relay.
Will Ryan: 1st U16 Relay.
I look forward to our students competing at Nationals at the end of the year.
Thank you to Mrs Alexander for the photographs.
