Glaciers, Tahr and Alpine Zonation

The Year 12 Geography class were lucky enough to spend 3 days exploring Mount Cook/Aoraki this week.

What a place to take our classroom learning and apply it to the environment we have been studying.

Students have spent term one learning about the formation of the South Island high country and the ongoing processes that continue to shape our country. We have also been exploring the geographic issue of the DOC Tahr cullings throughout this region, hearing DOCs perspective on this issue. Lastly, we tied our learning of alpine zonation, researching vegetation and altitude changes up the Red Tarns walk.

Highlight of the trip for all was our flight directly past Mt Cook/Aoraki, landing on the Tasman glacier.

A big thank you to the students for making it a great trip, and to Ms Moore and Miss Drumm for their help and experience.
