Our Intercollegiate Clay Target squad of Ollie Nicholson, Isaac Ottrey, George Scurr, Will Scurr, Henry Sim, Nic Sim, Jack Small and Shamus Young competed in the Southland Intercollegiate competition last weekend.
Departing a warm Dunedin morning at 5.45am, we arrived at The Southland Clay Target Club by Oreti Beach to be greeted by mist. Skeet shooting commenced at 9am, followed by DTL (Down the line) events at 10am. We were unfortunate to all be out shooting when the southerly downpour passed through soaking some students. Late morning saw the sun come out and more clays fell as students worked towards securing medals.
Our Intercollegiate squad had the support and presence of parents for encouragement, provision of gazebos and an outstanding lunch. Maree Whiteley and Peter Sim, Rachael and Scott Nicholson and Zita and Andrew Young joined the boys for the day.
Paul Bonney (Secretary of The Dunedin Clay Target Association) and son Sam travelled with us. Sam trains with our boys on a Wednesday afternoon after school. Unfortunately, Sam is the only student at Taieri College participating in this sporting code. By default, OBHS students benefit from Paul's coaching alongside Bill Mc Kinley who coaches our students.
Results from our first Intercollegiate shoot for the season are:
Ollie Nicholson
2nd Senior Single Rise
2nd Senior Single Barrel
Jack Small
1st Senior Single Rise
Nic Sim
1st Senior Individual Points Score
