Our boys have settled in well to daily routines and learning. Each day they work hard in being organised and departing the hostel promptly before 8:30am in order to start their day on time and in the right way. Prep times each evening have been effective for all our boys and are supported by both teaching and hostel staff. Our new Hostel Haka has also started well with the boys bringing great energy and effort to our weekly sessions.
During the last holiday break our International Students who remained on-site had some great opportunities to try new things and see more of Aotearoa. Thank you Mr Markham and Family who took our boys on a trip for a few days that included Horse Riding. Thank you to Mr Petelo (Pita) Sinamoni who also took the boys out on day trips to see the sights around Dunedin and the greater Otago Region.
As mentioned our value for the hostel this term is Respect and our boys are committed to a variety of ways we can show this to others, their learning and themselves. I have been impressed with how our hostel boys have taken the time to think about the meaning and value of showing respect to each other and also to our staff.
We hope you enjoyed our Hostel Mothers Day videos. We know Mum's, Grandmothers, Aunties, Sisters work hard to provide for our boys and give them the best life possible so it was important for us to show our message was with heart and had meaning.Thank you to all our Hostel Staff who worked tirelessly in the background to help put this together.
Our Senior Prefect meetings have started well this term. Again, I am impressed with the calibre of leadership amongst our Senior Prefects who show a great presence in our hostel with setting high standards and being great role models for their peers. They are working hard with thoughtful but effective planning to best serve our hostel boys each day and week. Leadership is a key element for our Senior Prefects to further develop and it is great to see these boys are embracing the opportunities to lead from the front, and lead well.
A large number of our boys and staff are looking forward to attending the first of the Trans-Tasman Super Rugby Game tonight Friday 14th May, between the Highlanders and Australian Champions the Queensland Reds. Lets go The Highlanders!
We look forward to hosting our Year 13 parents next weekend Saturday 22nd May for the Year 13 Formal. Nibbles will be provided as parents spend time taking photos with their sons on this special occasion.
Weekend activities have now been confirmed by our Senior Prefects and Staff. Details of the Term 2 schedule is below.
