Greetings to our Hostel parents, hope you are all well and enjoyed the long weekend as much as your boys did. Now that your boys are back on deck, we are looking forward to ensuring they are refocused on their learning, engaging in their lessons, completing their homework and developing their social skills.

Well done to our boys involved in the Southland Boys Inter-school.

Man of the Month - May

This is a recognition once a month to a hostel boy amongst us who has demonstrated our school values well and given a valuable contribution to our School House. At the end of the year each recipient of the Man of the Month goes into the draw to win the Man of the Year award which is decided by Hostel Prefects, Students and Staff. For the month of May our Man of the Month has attended all his hostel duties in a punctual manner and with a smile on his face. He consistently offers to help staff out when needed, has a great attitude and is succeeding at a high standard in his learning at school. He is involved in other extra curricular activities such as School Production, Kapa Haka, and Rugby while maintaining a high level of success in all he does. Congratulations to Year 12 Student, Sam Gavin our Hostel Man of the Month - May.

Music Room Ready

Our New Music Room has now been completed and is ready for use. Thank you to our Hostel Parent Committee for all your hard work and support in the background and a special mention to our head of property maintenance Mr Howard Nixon who did all the practical work to make sure everything was completed to a high standard. We have a small number of donated instruments already but would love any further donated instruments and furniture that could fit well in our Music Room and add to our boys musical experience. Items like old mic stands, instrument stands,  bean bags, and stools would also be appreciated.  If you or someone you know have some of these items, and would like to donate them, then please email photos to [email protected] so we can determine there appropriateness and that have enough space.

150th Otago Boys Hostel Anniversary. If you or people you know are former hostel boys, please register for the 150th Anniversary Celebrations that take place 23-24 October 2021. You can register on the website, follow this link: https://obhs.school.nz/boarding/hostel-150th-reunion/   We have had a big surge in interest which is great but if you are an old boy and have not registered, we would love to hear from you.  The 150th Committee are working hard behind the scenes preparing things for a momentous occasion.  Here are committee members Des Smith and Tess McLauchlan  documenting some important memories of our hostel boys over the years.
