Welcome to our final newsletter for the term, week 10. It has been a productive and enjoyable term filled with lots of new experiences and learning in the classroom. The School House Hostel has a nice calm feeling about the place. Many boys are however looking forward to the holiday break and an opportunity to recharge, reconnect with family and friends and get some well deserved rest and relaxation with time away from school. On a personal note it has been a pleasure to support and care for your sons walking alongside their successes, challenges and getting to know them more.
Man of the Month June
Ashton Hansen
Congratulations to Ashton Hansen who is part of the OBHS School Squash Team who won the Silver Medal in the South Island Squash Championships on Saturday 26th June. He is also achieving well in class and his teachers comment that he is focused and completed work to very good standard. Ashton is a Year 9 student who competes against mostly Seniors. He is the only junior in the OBHS squash team. Ashton was selected for the New Zealand under-13 team last year for the Trans-Tasman's against Australia. Unfortunately it was cancelled when Covid-19 hit. He is also competing in the South Island Championships next week in the under-15 category as a 13 year old. We look forward to hearing his results and watching him progress over the coming years.
Man of the Week
Congratulations Jacob Bolwell and Filipo Whitehouse-Opetaia Tovio who had a commanding presence for the 1st XV rugby team vs Southland Boys High School, was named co-man of the match, and were both key contributors to the close victory for OBHS.
PRODUCTION
All our boys attended the OBHS-OGHS Production - Cry Baby the musical on Thursday 1st July. It was great event and performed well by all students. Especially our very own School House Hostel boy Year 12 Sam Gavin. He was fantastic and clearly has a skill in performing arts. Well done Sam.
Black Belt Gained
Congratulations to Year 13 Prefect, Cody Thomson who passed his grading and received his Black Belt in Taekwon Do during the weekend of June 26-27. Cody received his Black Belt passing with an A grade. A great example of hardwork and dedication with multiple training's in the evenings each week in lead up to his special moment. Well done Cody.
FORMAL DINNER
Congratulations to all our recipients of Term 2 Awards and acknowledgements. It was a great night with a delicious up market menu provided by our wonderful kitchen team led by Donna King. Thank you to our amazing guest speak Mitchell Pryde. A former hostel boy and Head of House, his message of persevering through the challenges, taking the opportunities given, and being a role model for those that go on after you was inspiring for our boys to hear. He received a number of responses with NO! But did not let them hinder his progress. He took them as an opportunity to try other things knowing that the learning and experiences he had in hostel set him up for success no matter what and he could deal with those disappointments in life moving forward. Thank you also to Rector, Mr Hall for giving his time and presenting the awards to our boys. Also thank you to all our families who joined us live via our Facebook link. We hope you enjoyed celebrating with the boys.

Closing of Forbury Park Raceway
On the last night of Term 2, a small group of junior boys got to visit Forbury Park Raceway and be part of the Final Race Event ever. The boys experienced the excitement of the trots in Dunedin and got to be a small part of history as they closed down the raceway for ever.
To all our hostel parents, enjoy your time with your boys and allow them to recharge and relax away from school. We look forward to seeing them back on Sunday 25th July in Full School Uniform on arrival.
Hostel Old Boys doing well
Well done to two of our Hostel Old Boys who were also Housemasters at our School House. All of our hostel boys were proud to see them representing their International Rugby Teams for the first and second time these past two weeks. Jonah Aiona for Samoa and Josh Dickson for Maori All Blacks. Awesome role models for our School House and School

Our boys have enjoyed the past two weekend activities getting involved in some indoor bowls and some touch rugby. Both days were filled with energy and laughter and lots of fun.
