Our seniors debated a topic that was near and dear to my heart this week – creating dinosaurs!
More specifically, the teams were asked to put themselves in the shoes of a geneticist, and argue about whether or not a profit should be made from creating dinosaurs from their scientific perspective. (Clearly the people who set the topic had watched Jurassic Park over the weekend!)
Both teams from Otago Boys’ were arguing against making a profit – OBHS 2 (Jordan Hannon, Joshua Brunt, and Bruce Zheng) faced Columba 1 while OBHS 3 (Matthew Visser, Cheol Shin, and Ali Taha) debated John McGlashan. The debate was lively and seemed quite close.
Unfortunately, neither team secured a win, with the margin six and four points respectively.
Good work in an unusually-framed debate. Better luck next time!
