Last Saturday, Matthew Sims (Year 13 in 2020) was presented with his Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award at a function in Dunedin.
Held at Kavanagh College, the ceremony saw 52 young people from all over New Zealand receive their Gold Awards from Her Excellency The Rt Hon Dame Patsy Reddy and Mayor of Dunedin Aaron Hawkins. Each recipient had been asked to write a personal statement about their Award journey which was read out as they received their award.
Matt wrote “The Award scheme helped me grow as a person. It gave me confidence and a sense of achievement. The main highlights were helping my community through the Service and Residential Project sections, and the comradery gained from completing the Adventurous Journey section with others.”
Congratulations Matt, a fine achievement.
