Life for us, under Level 3 is not a lot different to Level 4.
My thanks to the community for respecting the fact that we are only open for those boys who have no other supervision alternative. It must have been tempting to send him off to school!
I have been pleased with the response of our students to this setback. Resilience, wellbeing or whatever term you use, is something that improves through surviving trials such as these. We are all disappointed it came around again, and so quickly, but we can only respond to situations that are put in front of us. So, if anything, this has given us all the opportunity to show resilience.
We eagerly await a move to Level 2 and to being able to have students return to school. I know last year, while not a full return, for example social distancing in the canteen, no formal assemblies, it was a joy to have student back on site.
Parents of senior students may have seen the decision to both postpone NCEA exams and to reintroduce the learner recognition credits, in essence a different level of attainment for certificates as recognition for the time spent in Level 4 and 3. I need parents to be aware that this is only after 20 days, and we won't reach that until September 14. The danger is students will have heard this and be planning for a lower criteria. If and when we understand exactly what it looks like for your boy, we will communicate with you. That is likely to be after Monday's next level announcement.
I hope you are all well. We all hope this weather continues so we can get outside for a walk with whanau.
