Clay Target Update

By Jacqueline Irving | Posted: Monday September 20, 2021

It was a big weekend for our eight hostel students who shot in the Wanaka and Alexandra intercollegiate competitions that had Waimate intercollegiate trophies dispersed amongst the events.

Lockdown had previously cancelled these events and the Oamaru/ Waimate Club sacrificed their day on Sunday to allow the best outcome for secondary shooters to get in some much needed competition heading in to an amended New Zealand Championships which will take place in a fortnight.

The squad of Ollie Nicholson, Isaac Ottrey, George Scurr, Will Scurr, Henry Sim, Nicholas Sim, Jack Small and Shamus Young performed well and were appreciative of the efforts that clubs made to accommodate shooting under level 2 restrictions.

Wanaka turned on near perfect weather for our last intercollegiate weekend of the year. Thank you to Rachael Nicholson for co-ordinating the food contributed by families and her catering size dishes that magically appeared. Scott Nicholson is our BBQ King and he will be a hard act to follow after 2022. (We hope he will do this again in 2022!) Special mention to Jo and Grant Scurr who opened their home to parents and the squad not only for a meal on Saturday evening but also for a very early cooked team breakfast on Sunday morning. To the other Hostel families knee deep in lambs thank you for your support too, crockpots of food and cakes magically just turned up in Wanaka.

The Alexandra Clay Target Club is on a river bed quarry. There was a good chill in the air and unfortunately a good deal of wind which may for some interesting targets. Clays were not the only things flying in the air there on Sunday afternoon but the only thing shot.
