Welcome to the Term 3 Week 9 School House Hostel Newsletter.

Good evening to our Hostel Parents and wider communities. Welcome to the Week 9 of term 3 Newsletter. It has been a very busy last 2 weeks and we thank you all for your support and encouragement.

Hostel Update:

Just to update you, all staff and students are back in the hostel and at school from Monday 27th September. As per the Ministry of Health leadership, there are no more concerns or risk of covid in the hostel, school, or the community. Thank you again for your support as we navigated this issue and will ensure this never happens again moving forward. We are looking forward to a good final week of Term 3 and look forward to focusing on an excellent Term 4 after the holiday break.

Key Date Changes:

Hostel 150th Reunion: Message from the Chairman

The organising committee has had to make a decision on whether the Reunion would go ahead or not at Labour Weekend. With the current uncertainty of the alert levels throughout the country, there is no guarantee that we will be at Level 1 by the 23 and 24 October.

We have therefore decided to postpone the celebrations until the 25 and 26 February 2022.

While the Committee are extremely disappointed to make this call, we believe it is the right one to allow all our Old Boys the opportunity to do some planning for Labour Weekend, as well as organise their travel and accommodation for the February dates.

One of the school values is resilience, so at no stage did we consider cancelling the event. We know that there is incredible excitement from those who have registered and we believe that the February date will still achieve a wonderful experience for us all.

As a Committee, we want to apologise for having to postpone the event as for many of you it will create an inconvenience, however we do hope you will stay loyal and support the celebrations next year.

We are in the process of updating the programme on the website, however the venues will remain the same. The mix and mingle will be held on the Friday evening, 25 February from 5.30pm – 8.30pm at the Alhambra-Union RFC, while the dinner will be at the Polytechnic Hub on the Saturday night, 26 February beginning at 5pm. All other events will take place as scheduled previously.

A sincere thank you for your loyal support.

We will have our formal presentations in each sitting for the respective year levels and will be streaming live on our Facebook Page during the presentations. We hope you join us in the live feed.

Man of the Month

Congratulations to Year 13 Hostel student Finn Hurley who is our Man of the Month for August.  Finn has had an outstanding rugby season on and off the field. A humble hard worker striving to be the best he can be for his team - he won Man of the Match honours in the Final versus Southland Boys, kicking the winning points.  Finn has now been selected in the New Zealand Secondary Schools Rugby Team and the Otago Metro U18s team.  We are all proud of you Finn.
