Year 10 Social Studies are currently investigating different issues that affect all communities around the world as part of a global issues unit.
Ms. Hope's Year 10 class were lucky enough to have Mr Fox (Aaron's Dad), a port captain based in Ghana West Africa come in to speak with the class around his experiences of pirates. His experiences of piracy have certainly been global with instances in Western and Northern Africa, Indonesia and India.
We heard of the causes of piracy such as extreme poverty and corruption, as well as, the consequences of piracy on impacted vessels and crew.
Students need to think of the 'so what now' approach. What are the solutions that are manageable, reasonable and cost effective?
Thank you Mr Fox for sharing with us your experiences and allowing our students to hear first hand about this issue.
