Despite covid restrictions and masking up everywhere, the Red Army are trouping on!
This week in McIndoe house there are a number of milestones to recognise. First and foremost is the naming of the House Leaders for 2022. Usually these young men are recognised at house assembly and they go on to forge their own path in making the House Leaderhip role(s) their own. Of course, in covid times, this kind of public recognition is not possible but we salute their efforts here.
There are a number of boys who will work closely with the House Leader and the Deputy Leader to create "The Voice of McIndoe". They will be responsible for our Cultural Voice (Leading the Haka and House Singing) and our Service Voice (Charity work such as the Can Drive and other work that raises the profile of McIndoe house in the school and wider community).
This year's McIndoe House Leadership team are:
House Leader: Robbie McCaw was identified early in the junior school as a potential leader and as he grows into this role, he stands out as a young man who oozes empathy and calm. Robbie is very well able to carry the house and bring people alongside him.
Deputy House Leader: Harry Devereux is a young man who always tells me how lucky he is to be an OBs man, who relishes every opportunity and who lives it every day. He is never ashamed to stand up for what is right.
Cultural Leader: Sam Gavin is a hostel boy who has always had a great sense of school spirit. He is a young man who embraces the bi-cultural nature of New Zealand and for whom the OBHS brotherhood is important. He is supported by Akelisi Tioti who brings a strong sense of Pasifika pride.
Service Leader: Ronan Melville brings a quiet diplomacy to this role. With a strong sense of community spirit, he has many ideas as to how McIndoe House can serve its community. He is supported by Sofa Letane Fesolai with his unassuming nature.
Of course, the mighty "Voice of McIndoe" would be nothing without our Chantmeisters and this year Lewis Harper and Danny Gilbert will lead the chants. We look forward to their contribution!
Form Class Captains and Deputies have also been named.
They are:
MC1 - Issac Adam with Ben Stephens
MC2 - Todd Duncan with Max Napier
MC3 - Ollie Nicholson with Luke Dykstra
MC4 - Lewis Harper with Akelisi Tioti
MC5 - Robert McIvor with Dan Hayman
MC6 - Danny Gilbert with Albert Gardner
MC7 - Ronan Melville with James Gardner
Mr McCrone and I really look forward to working with this core team of senior boys and think that we have one of the strongest leadership teams that we have seen for a while.
