An unreserved apology to our community.

We would like to make our community aware that a former Otago Boys’ High School teacher, Mr David Bond, has recently pleaded guilty to 20 charges relating to historic offences against students of the school.

Otago Boys’ High School unreservedly apologises to all past students who suffered as a result of this man’s actions, and we honour their courage in raising the issues.

Otago Boys’ High School previously investigated allegations and reported Mr Bond to the Teaching Council at the relevant times. More recently, we have fully co-operated with the Police investigation, and we will continue to offer support to these old boys.

We are saddened that this is a part of our school history, and it is important that we acknowledge and learn from it. We won't forget it and there is no attempt to distance ourselves from it.

Today, the school has a number of processes in place to promote safety for all students and these are regularly reviewed and updated. We also continue to provide channels of communication, for instance 'Stymie' to make it easier for students to report concerns, either on their own behalf or on behalf of their peers.
