Greetings and welcome to our School House Community. Welcome to our Week 9 edition of our Newsletter.
Introducing our New Staff
Although most of you have met or spoken to some of our new staff we thought we would give a brief introduction of them.
Ben Sinnomon - Housemaster
Ben is a former Hostel boy himself from 2012 - 2016. He has completed a Bachelor of Arts majoring in History last year and is now completing his final year of Bachelor of Laws degree this year. Ben is also heavily involved in Otago Hockey in various roles at a regional level and is also part of the OBHS Senior A Coaching team this year. Ben also supports a number of our boys with public speaking.
Stanton Hart-Stephens - Housemaster
Stanton has arrived to us from Auckland and is studying at Otago University. He has been involved in a number of youth groups as a leader and has a passion for giving service to others and seeing young people succeed. He is a talented sports person and enjoys the odd Tik Tok.
Tatenda Mutingwende - Weekend Matron
Tat as she is known to our boys has completed a Bachelor in Science, majoring in Food Science, and is now completing a Bachelor in Oral Health. She comes from a family with four brothers and has been part of a covid response over the past 12 months helping with covid testing and support. Tat has a passion for working with others and achieving goals that are set for both her and others part of a team.
Mandy Grant - Housekeeping & Kitchen Hand
Mandy is a positive and dedicated person to all she does. She has extensive experience in the caregiving and cooking space over the years and has a genuine care for our boys.
Tracy Turner - Housemaster
Tracy has been a Senior Constable in the New Zealand Police for over 20 years, with a raft of life experience and expertise in many roles that Housemasters have in School House. She has genuine care for our boys and is already an OBHS parent with her eldest son attending OBHS and her youngest joining next year. She has a Bachelor of Science majoring in Philosophy with first class honours and desire to see our boys succeed.
Bennett Henzeler - Housemaster
Bennett is currently the youngest person to start and about to complete a PHD at The University of Otago in Microbiology and Immunology. He has experience in tutoring, training and working with undergraduate students and enjoys giving service to others. Bennett is a positive and motivated person who will be a welcome addition to our assisting our boys in Academic Science support.
Brandon Mamea-Crawford - Housemaster
Brandon is currently completing a Bachelor of Applied Science at the Otago Polytechnic and has a strong interest in making work a fun and safe environment for all. He is always available to help others and has a passion for working with Youth and seeing them succeed.

Sunday Activities and others
Our boys have enjoyed a number of activities these past couple of weeks such as Croquet, Bowls, and attending the first Highlanders Super Rugby Home Game. Along with this there is usual Roberts Park sports events down the road and multiple trips to Moana Pools amongst other activities. Thank you to Kaikorai Valley Bowling Club and the Forbury Park Croquet Club for being great hosts for our boys.
School House Challenges
We have completed the round robin games of both Junior And Senior House Teams and now look to the finals coming up soon between
Man of the Week:
Week 7
Congratulations to our Year 11 Hostel Boys Levi Heffernan, Tamati McAlister Dennison, Jack Scott, and Georgre Anderson (coxswain) who were part of the Under 15 Quad that Won Gold Medal at the South Island Secondary School Championships. Well done boys.
Week 8 and Week 9
Congratulations to Year 10 Tom Bankshaw, Year 10 Charlie Ottrey, and Year 11 Archie Chittock. Tom stepped in to help staff out prepare food during supper when a staff member got injured, Archie helped clean the hostel from a large food mess that did not involve him. A great demonstration of our School House values including Respect, Honour, and Excellence. Charlie scored an impressive 139 runs not out for OBHS in the final cricket game against John McGlashan College over the weekend. A great show of talent, skill and perseverance. Well done Charlie.
Formal Dinner - Wednesday 13th April 6pm
This is a reminder we will have our End of Term Formal Dinner in School House on Wednesday the 13th April from 5:30pm. We will be streaming our main awards ceremony on our Facebook Page so please make sure you are following us in order to watch the live stream. This is the only date we require all boys to be available for when in the hostel. It is a Full School Uniform event with some formal presentations along with an amazing formal dinner.
Early Closure of School for Term 1
Reminder the School is closing early on Thursday 14th April at 1:25pm to allow for Hostel Parent - Teacher Interviews. There will also be a special ANZAC service in school in the morning from 11:00am with the service being live streamed.
Hostel Parent Teacher Interviews - Thursday 14th April
This will be on Thursday 14th April in the School Gymnasium from 1:45pm. School will close from 1:25pm in order for these to take place with our parents. Once complete you may then collect your son and head home for the School Holidays.
