Shakespeare festival

On Thursday, a select group of Year 12 students and an even smaller group of Year 11s took to the stage to perform scenes from Shakespeare in the annual University of Otago Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival.

Teddy Finney-Waters, Cheol Shin, Tama McNamara and Joseph Brunt joined with their Level 2 classmates from OGHS to perform a teacher directed scene from Henry VI. Armed with hockey sticks and an unhealthy desire to use them in battle, the houses of York and Lancaster fought not for the throne, but for the right to be the next Head Prefect!

Kahu Manning Overton and Bradley Escueta directed and performed the final fight scene from Macbeth and had the audience gasping with highly choreographed sword clashes and a couple of punches that had this teacher contemplating an incident report. Thankfully both returned to their feet after the curtains closed and will live to act another day.

Thank you to Mr Simmons for the crafting of the swords, and a big congratulations to the actors for their entertaining and successful performances.
