“The secret of a happy life is respect. Respect for yourself and respect for others.” Ayad Akthar (playwright and novelist).
In junior assembly this week the winners of respect badges were announced. These badges are part of the Junior Value Badges reward scheme which is in it’s inaugural year. They are a Rector’s Award. The scheme was designed to help boys focus on the value of the term and it rewards boys who collect positive postcards, house points and a good grade point average in their effort grades.
The value for Term 1 was respect and a total of 128 boys earned themselves a badge. This represents 35% of the junior school. The names of the recipients are listed below.
There were a few standout performances that are worthy of a special mention. These boys were top in the various categories in their year group.
Highest GPA for effort:
Year 9 with 4.3 - Will Cone, Ben Couling, Charlie Hore and Nathan Lau
Year 10 with 4.52 - David Cole and Jack Ussher
Highest number of positive postcards:
Year 9 with 4 postcards - Dustin Young
Year 10 with 3 postcards - Izaak Fruean
Highest number of housepoints:
Year 9 with 11 house points - Joshua Geddes
Year 10 with 15 house points - Jack Ussher
The Junior Value Badges scheme will also contribute towards the ongoing house competition and the results are as follows:
1st Place - Park House with 37 badges
2nd Place - McIndoe House with 36 badges
3rd Place - Aspinall House with 28 badges
4th Place - Saxton House with 26 badges
Boys must meet 2 criteria to gain a badge. The criteria for gaining a badge are as follows:
Criteria 1 - either a positive postcard home OR a shout out from a member of the public.
Criteria 2 - either a GPA for effort of 3.9+ OR top 10% of house points gained.
The value of the term of term 2 is courage. With this value, we hope to encourage your son to have the courage to try something new at OBHS. This could be trying out a new sport or club, making a concerted effort in class to be brave and put his hand up more or take some risks in his learning. It could mean even having the courage to stand up for others and speak out when he sees something wrong.
Term 2 is the time for the junior boys to show us what they are made of!
