Boys Achievement:
Well done to Hostel Deputy Head Prefect and OBHS Prefect Sam Gavin, who delivered the Last Word this week in the first entire Senior School Assembly for 2022. He spoke confidently and clearly offering some helpful tips to the Senior School about taking up opportunities in school and making the most of their time at Otago Boys' High School. Well done Sam.
Well done to Year 13 Hostel Prefect Daniel Gilbert who won Silver Medal in the National Age Group Swimming Championships in the 200m Butterfly for the 17/18 boys age group. A great example of hardwork and dedication paying off Daniel. Congratulations.
Student Leadership
Well done to Hostel prefect and Head Boy of OBHS, Isaac Ottrey who recently attended the National Head Masters and Head Boys Conference in Auckland this week, developing himself alongside other Head Boys from schools throughout New Zealand.
Sunday Activities:
A number of Year 13 boys enjoyed a great day out on the Charter Boat Sirocco fishing off the coast of Moeraki and reeled in plenty of fish and some great fun doing it. This is such a great activity to get out and involved in that we will now offer this activity to any hostel boys who would like to do this in Term 2. If interested please contact [email protected] for more information. We will also have the remaining Highlanders home games to attend along with some Otago Nuggets Basketball games to support and then the NPC season. Special acknowledgement to Housemaster Christian Lio-Willie who made his Highlanders Super Rugby debut in the Holidays and added great value to the team.
Flu Jab
We are in the process of organising the annual Flu Vaccination onsite for our boys in the next week or so. If you would like your son/s to get the flu jab, please email Janis at [email protected]
Upcoming Key Dates:
Friday 13th May - Teacher Only Day. The hostel will remain open as normal that day and the weekend as many boys start their winter sports competitions and we already have two other “compulsory-out” weekends this term. We will also have some activities available for boys to be involved with on that Friday as well as the Highlanders game that night.

Matariki Weekend. This is Friday 24th June to Sunday 26th June. This is a compulsory weekend out and national long weekend also. Boys can depart from Thursday 23rd June.
Happy Mothers Day this Sunday 8th May.
On behalf of School House Hostel, we want to wish all our mothers and mother figures in our hostel community a great day and we thank you all for the love and care you give your boys and raising them to be fine young men. We know the start of duck shooting season may impact slightly on festivities but know that you are valued, appreciated, and most of all loved by your boys.
Hostel Open Day: Friday 20th May.
We have had some really good interest from our 2023 and 2024 enrolments for School House Hostel and OBHS. We will be hosting families from 10am in the hostel. If you know of any more families who maybe interested then please ask them to contact Gillian Skilton at [email protected] or phone 03 477 5527 extension 242.
