When Year 11 student Javara Clark volunteered to be a lifeguard at Brighton beach on Waitangi day, he was not expecting to save a boy's life.
But that is exactly what happened. Javara along with fellow Brighton Surf Lifesaving club member Brennan Dinnisen were patrolling the beach, when a boy in the water ended up getting caught in a rip.
There is no doubt their quick action and skill saved the young man's life. This has led to their nomination for the Rescue of the Year award at the Otago/Southland Surf Lifesaving Awards of Excellence function being held at the Edgar Centre on Friday evening.
Javara has been a lifeguard for the last 2 years, and as well as being a regular volunteer he is also actively involved in the coaching of junior club members.
Well done Javara!
