A message from the Rector

When will we all be back to normal?

Another week of mass absences. The flu and Covid have really affected our boys and staff.

This was brought into a clear and painful focus when the senior boys had to sing the school song acapella in assembly as all the pianists were sick. Not the most refined rendition of the school song I have ever heard, credit to the boys for giving it ago. Don't worry boys, we hit all the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

The assembly message this week was being part of positive change. A great example of this was the Can Drive led by the Student Council. They did a fantastic job and I know Family Works Otago will be delighted with the efforts. A group of Year 13 students also supported the Blood Drive on Tuesday and I thank every one of you for your contribution. 

Our young men are capable of amazing things and I am keen to support them follow their passions. They need to realise that they have the power to make a change and by putting their hand up and not out, they can have a real impact on those around them. 

With the disruption this year I would encourage whanau of our senior boys to make an appointment to see their teachers in the upcoming parent interviews. This is a crucial part of our working together to ensure your son achieves his potential. I would encourage all our students to attend as well. This adds more depth to the conversations and allows everyone to be on the same page. 

We all want the boys to do well but many have had significant absences and need to be supported in catching up.
