Greetings to our School House Hostel Parents and wider community, and welcome to our Week 6 Newsletter. The term is fast approaching the end with assessments, cultural activities and sports keeping our boys busy.
Flu Jab
The Flu Vaccination had a good response with around 60 boys taking the opportunity to get their jab.
Upcoming Key Dates:
NEW CHANGE!!!
Matariki Weekend. This is Friday 24th June to Sunday 26th June. Although this is essentially a compulsory weekend out and national long weekend also, we do understand that there is weekend sport and some families are not able to organise alternative accommodation for their boys. Therefore for those families whose boys need that support, we will keep the hostel open with a reduced staff but sufficient supervision to ensure your son/s do not miss out on these activities. Boys who are leaving as planned can depart from Thursday 23rd June.
Tuesday 14th June - Christs College Interschool - Home
A number of hostel boys are involved in the above exchange across multiple sports. We will be hosting inside the hostel the travelling Christs College Shooting Team.
Man of the Week
Congratulations to Year 13 Ryan Dey, who made his debut for the mighty Reds Rugby Team and scored a try. He gave his all for the team mostly made up of Hostel Boys and demonstrated our school values of courage and respect. Well done Ryan.
Congratulations to Year 9 Zach Hall, who was nominated by his school teachers as someone who consistently exhibits great effort and attitude in his classes while achieving some great results. He is always positive and supportive in class and give his best all the time. A geat example of Excellence, perseverance and respect. Well done Zach.
Charter Boat Fishing
We are taking some of our boys Charter Boat Fishing on Sunday 19th June. There are still some spaces available for those parents who would like their son’s to participate. If interested and not already confirmed with us please email [email protected] to add your sons name to the list. We will be leaving the hostel at 6:15am on that Sunday.
Activities:
Boys have enjoyed Zorbing at the Edgar Centre and lots of internal activities with our staff and senior leaders. Today they go Ice Skating.
Mitchell Cup - House Competition
Spare time is now being focused on Mitchell Cup House Challenges. Cultural night is coming closer and basketball is beginning with the annual Rowing Challenge about to go down next week. These events are being organised by our Hostel Prefects and Sports Leaders, Cody Campbell and Ned Flanery. Added to this we have the return of the School House Cultural Night, where each house will perform and School House Haka (Te Haka Wharekura), a Skit with the theme of “Brotherhood”, and a Lip Sinc. All three items will be judged on sound, performance, accuracy, and audience engagement. So there is lots going on, but that's just how we like it in School House, giving our boys as much opportunity as possible to be better than the day before.
New Zealand Clay Target Championships
We wish Year 13 hostel boys Nic Sim and Ollie Nicholson who have headed away for The New Zealand Clay Target Championships in Christchurch for the week long competition. Go well gentlemen and know that School House Hostel is behind supporting you two all the way.
Thank you for your time and enjoy the week ahead.
