Only lightning usually stops a Clay Target competition.
Rugby on Saturday across the province meant many of our students could only compete on Sunday which was day two of the provincial championships.
Jackson Stevens in Year 10, did not play Rugby on Saturday and enjoyed near perfect conditions shooting in a squad of 54 men from across Otago, Southland and Canterbury. On Sunday additional students joined him in atrocious conditions. Nic Sim, Charlie Scurr, Ben Roy, Darrius Rogers and Shamus Young were soaked through as they persevered to shoot in stormy conditions.
Respect to Johnathon King and George Geck who gave up their Sunday to load the traps with clays for the competition when a sleep in and a warm bed would have been more desirable.
The Dunedin Club supports our school squad with Mr Bill Mc Kinley coaching our boys each Wednesday afternoon after school. Nic Sim and Jackson came away with titles. Ultimately it was Jackson's efforts across two days that secured his outstanding nine titles.
