This week we had our first onsite engagement as an NCEA change hub school.
Otago Boys' High School was selected as one of only 20 schools nationwide to help provide feedback on the direction and the resources for the proposed NCEA changes.
The new literacy and numeracy requirements were the focus of the visit this time. I would like to thank the 20 Year 9 parents that attended a focus group meeting on Tuesday. Their honesty and humour were appreciated by the team. Being parents of students in Year 9, they understand that their boys are going to be the first group to encounter the new literacy and numeracy requirements. It is fantastic for the school to be involved as a change hub to ensure we can have a say in the process and get 'first looks' at new information that is produced. We look forward to working with Amanda Medcalf and her team over the next engagements. Amanda stated:
"Once again thanks to you, your staff, your students, and your parent community for your help this week.
Everyone we engaged with was supportive and generous with their time and insights.
Our sincere thanks to the staff who met with us - we are aware of the pressure they are under and are hugely grateful for their insights and detailed feedback.
The students were a credit to you, and it was a pleasure to work with them.
We gathered detailed and comprehensive insights and we could not have asked for a warmer welcome or a better organised Hub!"
