When can students start study?

JUNIORS

It is preferable for Junior students to start at the beginning of a term but we do have the flexibility to start a student during a term. Students starting at Junior level (Years 9 & 10) can start in any of the four terms. However, in the case of long-term study students, it is generally recommended to start no later than the beginning of Term 3 (July). The best start date may depend on students' English proficiency.

SENIORS

Senior students may start in any of Terms 1, 2 or 3. The best start date may depend on students' academic capability and English proficiency. Senior students cannot start in Term 4 as the focus in this term is external exam preparation and taking the external exams.

What About English proficiency?

All NCEA students must pass the external Common Assessment Activities (CAAs) in Literacy and Numeracy to achieve any of the Levels 1-3 of NCEA. The literacy CAAS will be challenging for students with limited English proficiency. For this reason we recommend that students enter with a good existing level of English or commence study overseas as early as possible. Students seeking entry at Year 11 will need to have strong English proficiency. All students intending to undertake NCEA will be interviewed by the Director of International Students and may be required to take an English test (Duolingo or similar).

What is the shortest study period on offer?

Our minimum study period is one term. In exceptional cases we may accept students for 1-3 months, particularly if they are considering longer term study.
