Last Friday, James Howard and James Gardner competed in the Otago/Southland Road Cycling Champs.
The racing consisted of a 3km time trial and a road race around Teretonga Raceway, in Invercargill.
After the time trial, James Gardner was 2nd and James Howard 4th. On to the road race, and the small field was immediately put under pressure by James Gardner. He had some time to make up after the time trial, however, he couldn’t drop the local rider who beat him in the time trial. While James G won the road race in a well timed sprint, the combined times meant that Marshall Erwood, from James Hargest, was the overall winner. James H finished a strong 4th.
Both boys rushed away soon after prizegiving. James G was competing in the Timaru Cycle Tour and James H practicing the tracks and trails in Bluff, for the upcoming NZSS Mountain Bike Champs in October.
