With our initial trip postponed from earlier in the year due to Covid, the class were excited to finally make it to Queenstown with a modified itinerary.
On Monday we heard from Alana Standish, a planner at the Queenstown Lake District Council. The class are currently writing a report on how to plan and run a significant event for their final assessment. Our focus is on the Rhythm and Alps festival held over New Year. It is always invaluable to hear from those with the skills and first hand knowledge, so we thank Alana for her time and resources.
We then set off to explore the range of tourist activities on offer in Queenstown, first stop jetboating with Shotover Jet. What an experience and certainly one to be remembered. A quick stop back to our accommodation for dinner and then onto the Fear Factory for another action packed event. We'll keep the photos from this experience close to us!
Tuesday saw us head to the Arrowtown museum to hear from Amanda Viana, their Education and Program Manager. From her presentation, the students will be able to piece together tourism as a cultural process and the changing nature of tourism in Queenstown over time which the class will use for their external assessment. Then on our final stop of the day was the bungee jump. From an initial 10 jumpers, down to 4, we were certainly treated to an entertaining afternoon!
A great trip away and a great way to finish an action packed year. The students have demonstrated a range of skills this year in Geography from coastal processes, cultural processes, events planning and management, the social and economic impacts of the diamond industry and finally gaining skills to understanding perspectives and what drives other points of views.
