OBHS is taking part in a national meteorite finding project.
Fireballs Aotearoa is aiming to find meteorites that land in New Zealand to help study the origins of our solar system.
Our school had a camera installed on the roof last week, and the image shows 33 meteors (with a few birds and stars for added variety) seen on Saturday night. While none of these meteors reached the ground, our Earth and Space Science classes will be helping to monitor the cameras for large fireballs that may produce a meteorite.
We will then be able to find out where it landed and hopefully help to collect it for scientific study.
