Greetings a welcome to our Week 9 Newsletter for School House Hostel in Term 3. We are no in the full swing of Senior Exams until the end of Term and it has been a very busy week with two Mitchell Cup House Challenges within the Hostel which has affected the current standings in the placings for the Houses. Added to this there has been lots of activity in the classrooms with internal assessments, change of options for Year 9 and further new learning moving forward.
Man of the Week
Congratulations to Year 9 Charlie Hore, who stood up to help his house in the Swimming House Challenge when no one else would. He swam against boys older than him and ended up swimming in multiple races for his House. Well done Charlie.
Mitchell Cup Competition - House Challenges
Swimming
It was great to see our boys involved in House Challenges again and putting in the work in the swimming pool for their Houses. We have Year group races, year group relays and finished with a Whole House Relay. There were some very tight contests, and in the relays multiple lead changes. Great to see our boys cheering from the stands and not needing to wear masks. In the end it was a deserved win to Niholson House.
Results:
1 - Nicholson
2 - Campbell
3 - Equal: Hawthorne & Thomson.
School House Haka Competition
Another highly contested House Competition was held on Thursday night in the McCaw Room. This was the first time the New Hostel Haka (Te Haka Wharekura) was added to the Mitchell Cup Competition. Houses had been practicing to deliver a performance that both the boys and their families could be proud of. They all did well in giving their best and finished with a final mass Haka as one brotherhood together which could be heard across the suburb. In the end only one point separated the top two houses with Campbell House taking the honours. Special acknowledgement to Year 10 Tamati Taylor from Nicholson House, who was the only student leader for his house.
Results:
1- Campbell
2 - Nicholson
3 - Equal: Thomson & Hawthorne
Sunday Activity
The Boys enjoyed a bit of Curling on Sunday and it was great to see them show some skill in this activity and really get involved. Looks like some future curlers could be forging some more hostel teams very soon. A lot of fun was had by all.
