Welcome to our return to hostel newsletter for Term 4

Greetings to all our School House Hostel families and wider community.  We are about to enter our final term for the year and ramp up our Senior Exam Preparations as well as spend some special time with our Year 13 boys in their final term of their schooling life. We hope that you have had a great break with your boys and are looking forward to another productive term ahead.

Important Information:

We look forward to seeing your son/s on Sunday 16th October and by dinner time if possible.  There will be a full hostel meeting in the dining hall from 7pm to go over Term 4.  Boys can begin to return from 2pm onwards.

Boys to return as usual in full school uniform.  They can change once they arrive.  Its important for our boys to return with the right mindset moving into Term 4.

Senior Boys will have their exam timetables printed and then a discussion held with each boy to clarify when he will be returning for exams once he goes on exam leave.

Formal Dinner - Term 3 Award Recipients.

Well done to all those boys who were acknowledged for outstanding contributions in Term 3.  We would like to take this opportunity to thank our guest speaker and former hostel boy, Mr Tim Doherty (class of 94-98) who shared some wise words and great tips that have helped him become very successful in the finance space while also giving back to OBHS in various roles. Leavers Rugby League Match

Congratulations to our Hostel Boys Rugby League team who put in a great effort and performance on Littlebourne on the last day of term 3.  Up against a larger pool of players from the Year 13 day boys, the hostel team stood tall and came away with a well deserved victory. A great way to sign off.  Special acknowledgement to our Coach, Scotty Opetaia for giving his time and expertise in training's and on game day.  Also well done to the chosen Year 9 waterboy, Toby McClean.

Touch Rugby - Australian Trip

Congratulations to our 6 hostel boys who recently returned this week from representing the Otago Boys' High School Senior A Touch Team in the All Schools International Touch Tournament in the Gold Coast, Australia in these holidays.  Our Senior A Touch team competed against some of the best high school touch teams in the world and held their own.  They played 6 games in total, winning 3 games and losing 2 games by just 1 try.  Those close losses could have gone the other way.  The boys represented their families and the school with honour and respect.  Along the journey in Australia, they played warm up games against the best Open Men's Touch Team in the Gold Coast, Kick Back, visited the Movie World theme park, enjoyed some time in Surfers Paradise and at the beach, and developed a lot both as individuals and as a team as they now build towards the New Zealand Secondary School Touch Nationals in December in Rotorua. Hostel boys involved were, Hamish Faulks, Ben Harraway, Rota Lafita, Te Ava-A-Katu Nicholas, Tom Wilson, and George Tisdall. Thank you to coaches Jarrod Powell and Director of Boarding, Vai Mahutariki and special acknowledgement to the Faulks and Challis families who traveled with and supported our boys from the first fundraiser right through to sorting the boys meals every day on tour.

Well done to Year 13 Hostel and School Prefect Hamish Faulks who was named MVP of the tournament for the Senior A team, and also to Tom Wilson who was named most improved player in this campaign.  A great effort by all boys involved.
