The Otago Boys’ High School School Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Richard Harvey as our new Assistant Principal.
The position has become available after the retirement of Mrs Lindy Marr. Mrs Marr, who I am pleased to report will stay on as SENCO and as a teacher in 2023. There was keen interest in the position with 17 applicants from across the country. Six were interviewed.
Mr Harvey will take up a position as Curriculum Leader at the beginning of 2023.
Mr Harvey is currently Assistant Principal of Geraldine High School. He is a teacher of 22 years standing with experience in New Zealand and overseas. His efforts at Geraldine High, to plan, implement and review a school-wide Whanaungatanga Programme; building positive relationships in the school, as well as other leadership experiences made him ideally suited to step into this important role.
As a leader of curriculum, particularly social sciences, Mr Harvey’s experience with International Baccalaureate and NCEA programmes gives us a window into wider curriculum opportunities with our boys. He holds a Master of Science, Bachelor of Social Science and Graduate Diploma Secondary Teaching. He is a highly effective administrator who understands how to create and maintain effective programmes for boys.
Mr Harvey’s interview was superb. He highlighted our school values as ones he held to and added trust, honesty and transparency. ‘School leaders have a responsibility to ensure relationships are maintained and enriched, and that teachers have a self-belief that their actions make a positive difference for students.’
Mr Harvey will be joined in Dunedin by his wife Hannah and two children Sam (10) and Noah (9).
