Junior school fives final 2022

On Friday, 2 December 2022, the Junior Fives champion was crowned.

After a week of intense round robin play the four semi-finalists were found.

Year 10 students Jack Ussher (1) and Ashton Hansen (3) were pitted against the unseeded Flynn MacGill-Brown and Jeremy Frei respectively in the semi-finals. However, the semi-final eventually went to the seeded, with Ussher and Hansen prevailing. 

The final was a closely fought affair, with lengthy rally’s and plenty of points hotly contested. In the end, Ashton Hansen claimed a straight sets victory 12-9, 12-7 and with it the 1883 J.J.J. Mallard Cup for 2022. 

Unfortunately, Ashton will not be able to be presented this historic Otago Boys’ High School trophy in person at the end-of-year Junior Prize Giving due to his Year 10 Cricket commitments. 

Thank you to all the supporters for getting along and supporting the players during the week and a special thank you to the Rector Mr Hall for presenting the J.J.J. Mallard Cup for 2022 to this year’s champion Ashton Hansen.
