School House Newsletter - Term 4 - Week 9

Welcome to our Week 9 Newsletter

Tena tatau e te whanau, and greetings to all our School House Hostel and OBHS Community. We are in the final days of our school year and the holidays are fast approaching.

Man of the Week

Dustin Young

Congratulations to Dustin Young who has been a great help around the hostel, always willing to help others. He comes and gets on with his duties often before he is called to do them by staff. Well done Dustin.

Charlie Hore

Congratulations to Charlie Hore who is a great leader in the hostel as a Year 9. He has been nominated by staff for organising all the boys in his sports teams and groups to ensure they get their lunch orders in and complete any leave before heading off to the different activities. He put his hand up to help others and has a great positive attitude. Well done Charlie.

Sporting Excellence:

Congratulations to Year 10 student Ashton Hansen who won the Junior Fives Trophy last week. This is a traditional OBHS event that has been running for very long time and has a proud storied history. Ashton’s skill and talent was on full display as he clinched the title in straight sets. Well done Ashton.

Year 8 Overnight Stay

We had the privilege of hosting next years, Year 9 Boys in our traditional overnight stay, allowing them to begin to build those new friendships, get a better understanding of School House and our routines, while checking out where everything is including where they will sleep in 2023. This will be another great group of boys, who had a lot of laughs and a bit of fun along the way. 

Last Day of School: Friday 9th December (half day)

We will finish early on Friday as the Junior Prize Giving starts at 10:30am and then after this, boys depart for home. Boys will be packing up their gear this week and placing it all in the McCaw Room for collection after the Prize Giving to go home. Parents can collect their sons gear earlier if they wish. We will keep a staff member on duty until the last boy is collected.  The boys last meal in the hostel on Friday will be breakfast.

Activities

Our completed their last lot of activities over the past couple of weeks for the year.  We had the Junior Touch House Competition, which was won by Hawthorne House.  The boys then attended the Movies and enjoyed a night out together. On Sunday they also enjoyed a bit of a hike and scenic walk to check out the great outdoors that surrounds us here.

Junior Prize Giving: - Friday 9th December, this starts from 10:30am in the School Auditorium.

School House Prefects Camp: - This is from Friday 27th January - Sunday 29th January.

Year 13 Return to Hostel - Sunday 29th January

Year 9 arrive  into Hostel - Sunday 29th January

Year 10 Return to Hostel - Monday 30th January

Year 11 and 12 Return to Hostel - Tuesday 31st January

Enjoy the Summer Break

Wishing all our School House Hostel families a safe and enjoyable summer. Take the time enjoy each moment with your son/s and families. Thank you for your support of your boys time in School House this year, and we look forward to an exciting 2023.
